A Man’s Fiancée Asked His Grandmother to Make Her a Huge Wedding Cake, Then Refused to Pay for It – So His Sister Prepared a Wedding Gift She’ll Never Forget

ful 2

My brother’s fiancée asked my grandmother to make her a huge wedding cake, then refused to pay for it — so I prepared a wedding gift she would never forget.

My grandmother is 73, and baking has always been her favorite thing to do.

So when my brother Daniel’s fiancée, Ashley, complained that bakeries wanted more than $1,000 for a wedding cake, she came to my grandmother, showed her a photo of the cake she wanted, and asked:

“Grandma, could you make this? I’ll pay for all the ingredients and your time, of course.”

My grandmother is the kindest person I know. Of course, she agreed.

She bought all the ingredients with her own money, even though she lives on a modest pension, and spent three days baking, filling, decorating, and making dozens of little sugar flowers.

You can only imagine how much work my grandmother put into that cake.

When I stopped by her house to visit, I saw how carefully she was doing everything and how much time and effort she was putting into it.

I stayed overnight at her house so that in the morning, we could go to the wedding together. I had a car, and the wedding was outside the city, so I didn’t want her traveling there alone.

Early the next morning, Ashley came to pick up the cake.

Then my grandmother carefully asked Ashley:

“Honey, could you pay for the cake now? I spent quite a bit of my own money on the ingredients, and I’m embarrassed to say this, but I need to buy my medication soon, so every dollar matters.”

Ashley actually laughed in her face.

“Oh, Grandma. Why should I pay for the cake? We’re family. Can’t you do this for us for free?”

My grandmother looked confused, but she gently replied:

“Honey, I don’t mind doing things for you. I just didn’t expect to pay for this cake myself. Every dollar of my pension is already budgeted. I’m sorry…”

But Ashley shamelessly replied:

“Stop acting poor. I’m not paying for the cake. I already have enough expenses.”

My grandmother was standing there on the verge of tears when I walked out and told Ashley that this wasn’t right and that they’d never agreed that Grandma would make the cake at her own expense.

But the thing is, Ashley has always been like this. She and Daniel aren’t poor. Ashley is just extremely stingy. She’s throwing a huge wedding for 150 guests, so she absolutely could have paid my grandmother for the cake.

So this had been her plan from the beginning: trick my grandmother into making a huge cake with her own money.

Well, we’d see how she liked my plan.

I put something else into the gift box where I’d already placed their wedding present.

A little special detail.

At the wedding, when I handed over the box and Ashley opened it, she went pale.

All 150 guests looked at each other in shock.
